Why Most “Best Sales Intelligence” Lists Waste Your Time
If you’ve already Googled “ai sales intelligence platforms,” you’ve seen the lists. Thirty tools, no context, every one of them described as “powerful” and “comprehensive.” Those lists are written for SEO, not for you.
This one is different. We work with sales teams at small and mid-size companies (10 to 500 people), and we see what actually gets used after the free trial ends. So instead of listing every tool with a website, we grouped the platforms that matter by what they actually do for your reps. Because “sales intelligence” has become a catch-all term covering everything from contact databases to conversation analytics to deal prediction. Those are different products solving different problems.
AI sales intelligence platforms are software tools that use artificial intelligence to collect, analyze, and surface buyer data, behavioral signals, and competitive insights so sales reps can prioritize the right prospects and close deals faster. The best ones don’t just dump data on your team. They tell reps who to call, when to call, and what to say.
Here’s how we evaluated these platforms: Does it actually save reps time (not just technically “have AI”)? Is the data accurate enough that reps trust it? Can a company with 20 to 200 salespeople afford it and actually implement it without a six-month project? And honestly, would we recommend it to a client?
Contact and Company Data: The Foundation of AI Sales Intelligence Platforms
Before your reps can sell smarter, they need to know who they’re selling to. These platforms focus on building and enriching your prospect database with AI-powered accuracy.
ZoomInfo
ZoomInfo is the 800-pound gorilla of B2B contact data. Their database covers over 100 million business contacts, and their AI layers on intent signals, org charts, and technographic data (what software a company uses). If your reps are doing outbound to mid-market or enterprise accounts, ZoomInfo probably has the deepest dataset available.
The catch? Pricing. ZoomInfo contracts typically start around $15,000 per year for small teams, and the good stuff (intent data, workflow automation) sits in higher tiers. For a 15-person sales team at a growing company, that’s a real budget conversation. Data accuracy is solid but not perfect. We’ve seen clients report 80-85% accuracy on direct dials and emails, which is better than most competitors but still means one in five contacts might bounce.
Best for: B2B companies with outbound-heavy sales teams targeting mid-market and up. If your average deal size is under $5,000, the ROI math gets harder.
Apollo.io
Apollo has quietly become the platform a lot of growing sales teams actually use day-to-day. Their free tier gives you 10,000 email credits per month (yes, really), and paid plans start around $49 per user per month. The AI features include automated email sequencing, lead scoring, and a “buying intent” signal that flags companies researching topics related to your product.
Where Apollo falls short compared to ZoomInfo is data depth on larger enterprises and direct phone numbers. But for SMBs doing outbound to other SMBs, it’s often the smarter buy. Their Chrome extension for LinkedIn prospecting is one of the best we’ve tested.
Best for: Startups and SMBs that want a solid all-in-one prospecting tool without enterprise pricing.
Cognism
Cognism focuses on phone-verified mobile numbers, which is their real differentiator. If your reps live on the phone (not just email), the verified number accuracy matters. They also have strong European data coverage, which is worth noting if you sell into the EU where GDPR makes data sourcing trickier.
Pricing isn’t published, but expect enterprise-level costs similar to ZoomInfo. The platform is less feature-rich on the workflow side, so you’ll likely pair it with a separate sequencing tool.
Best for: Phone-first sales teams, especially those selling into European markets.
Conversation Intelligence: What Your Reps Are Actually Saying
These platforms record, transcribe, and analyze sales calls and meetings. The AI doesn’t just take notes. It identifies patterns in what wins deals and what kills them.

Gong
Gong is the market leader in conversation intelligence, and for good reason. It records every call, demo, and meeting, then uses AI to analyze talk-to-listen ratios, competitor mentions, pricing discussions, objection patterns, and dozens of other signals. Sales managers use it to coach reps based on what’s actually happening in conversations, not what reps claim happened in their CRM notes.
The AI-generated deal insights are where Gong has pushed hard recently. It flags deals that are going sideways before anyone on the team realizes it, based on patterns like stakeholder engagement dropping off or next steps going vague. That alone has saved deals for clients we’ve worked with.
Pricing is the barrier. Gong typically runs $100-150 per user per month with annual contracts and platform fees on top. For a 10-person team, you’re looking at $20,000+ per year. It’s worth it if you have the deal sizes to justify it. If your average sale is $500 per month, probably not.
Best for: B2B teams running complex, multi-call sales cycles where coaching and deal visibility drive revenue.
Chorus (by ZoomInfo)
ZoomInfo acquired Chorus and has been integrating it into their platform. It does most of what Gong does (call recording, AI analysis, deal intelligence) but with tighter integration into ZoomInfo’s data ecosystem. If you’re already a ZoomInfo customer, Chorus is the natural add-on rather than buying Gong separately.
As a standalone product, Chorus is generally seen as a step behind Gong in AI sophistication and user experience. But the gap is closing, and the bundled pricing with ZoomInfo can make the total cost lower.
Best for: Existing ZoomInfo customers who want conversation intelligence without adding another vendor.
AI Sales Intelligence Platforms for Deal Prediction and Pipeline
These tools sit on top of your CRM and use AI to predict which deals will close, which are at risk, and where your pipeline has gaps.

Clari
Clari ingests data from your CRM, email, calendar, and calls, then builds an AI model of your pipeline that’s more accurate than whatever your reps manually entered into Salesforce. (Let’s be honest, CRM data from reps is fiction about half the time.) Clari’s revenue intelligence gives leadership a view of the quarter that’s based on actual buyer engagement signals, not gut feelings.
The platform shines at companies with $10M+ in revenue where forecasting accuracy directly impacts planning decisions. For smaller teams, the value is harder to justify. Pricing is custom and enterprise-oriented.
Best for: Sales orgs with 50+ reps where forecast accuracy is a board-level concern.
6sense
6sense takes a different angle. Instead of analyzing your existing pipeline, it identifies accounts that are in-market for what you sell before they ever fill out a form on your website. Their AI processes anonymous buying signals (content consumption, review site visits, keyword research) across the web to build intent profiles.
This is powerful for account-based selling. Your reps stop cold-calling random lists and start reaching out to companies already researching solutions like yours. The downside: 6sense is complex to set up, requires marketing alignment, and costs in the range of $30,000-100,000+ per year depending on your needs.
Best for: Mid-market and enterprise B2B companies running account-based sales and marketing programs.
Head-to-Head Comparison: Choosing the Right Platform
| Platform | Primary Strength | Starting Price Range | Best Team Size | Setup Complexity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZoomInfo | Contact and company data depth | ~$15,000/yr | 10-500+ reps | Medium |
| Apollo.io | All-in-one prospecting at SMB pricing | Free / $49 per user/mo | 1-100 reps | Low |
| Cognism | Verified phone numbers, EU data | Custom (enterprise) | 10-200 reps | Medium |
| Gong | Conversation analysis and coaching | ~$100-150 per user/mo | 10-500+ reps | Low-Medium |
| Chorus | Conversation intel + ZoomInfo integration | Bundled with ZoomInfo | 10-200 reps | Low |
| Clari | Pipeline prediction and forecasting | Custom (enterprise) | 50-500+ reps | Medium-High |
| 6sense | Anonymous buyer intent detection | ~$30,000+/yr | 20-500+ reps | High |
A quick side note on this table: “starting price” is doing heavy lifting here. Most of these platforms have tiered pricing that changes based on the features you need, the number of seats, and how much data access you want. Get real quotes before budgeting.
How to Actually Choose an AI Sales Intelligence Platform
Here’s what we tell clients when they ask us which platform to pick. Forget features for a minute. Start with three questions:
What’s your biggest sales bottleneck right now? If your reps don’t have enough people to call, you need a data platform (ZoomInfo, Apollo, Cognism). If they’re having plenty of conversations but losing deals, you need conversation intelligence (Gong, Chorus). If leadership can’t tell what’s going to close this quarter, you need pipeline intelligence (Clari, 6sense).
What’s your budget, honestly? If you have $5,000 per year, Apollo is your answer. If you have $50,000+, you can start combining tools. Buying a $30,000 platform that your team uses at 20% capacity is worse than buying a $5,000 tool they use every day.
What does your team actually use now? The fanciest AI means nothing if it doesn’t integrate with your CRM and your reps won’t log into it. We’ve seen companies buy Gong and watch it collect dust because managers never built the habit of reviewing calls. The tool is only as good as the process around it.
One more thing most lists won’t tell you: you probably don’t need all of these categories at once. Start with the platform that fixes your most obvious gap. Use it for 90 days. Then evaluate whether adding a second layer of intelligence makes sense. Stacking three tools before your team has mastered one is a recipe for wasted money and frustrated reps.
What We’d Recommend for Most SMBs
If you’re a company with 10 to 100 salespeople and you’re buying your first AI sales intelligence platform, start with Apollo.io for prospecting data and sequences. It gets your team 80% of the value at 20% of the cost of the enterprise options. Once your outbound engine is running and generating consistent pipeline, add Gong if you need help with conversion rates and coaching.
If you’re bigger (100+ reps, $20M+ revenue, complex deals), start the conversation with ZoomInfo for data and either Gong or Clari depending on whether your gap is in conversations or forecasting. And if you’re running serious ABM programs, 6sense belongs on your shortlist, but only if you have the marketing team to actually activate the intent signals it surfaces.
