The problem

The math behind the manual work

95%

Of enterprise generative-AI pilots fail to deliver measurable revenue impact. The core reason: generic tools that were never integrated into real workflows or real data.

MIT, 2025
60%

Of AI projects without AI-ready data will be abandoned by 2026 (Gartner). Poor data quality is the leading reason AI projects fail.

85%

Of AI projects fail to deliver, twice the rate of traditional IT projects, mostly from poor integration and problems chosen before they were understood.

Where AI moves the needle

Strategy and build, under one roof

McKinsey describes the future of enterprise AI as a mix of off-the-shelf and custom models orchestrated around a company's unique data and workflows. The model itself is about 15 percent of the solution. The other 85 percent is integration, workflow design, data pipelines, and change management. That is what we do.

01

Custom AI agents and workflow systems

4–8 weeks

AI systems built from the ground up around how your business actually operates. Not a generic chatbot or an off-the-shelf model pointed at your data. A purpose-built AI agent that understands your processes, works within your software stack, and handles the specific tasks your team currently does manually.

  • Built around your workflows, data, and business rules
  • Designed to integrate with your existing tools from day one
  • Handles the specific use cases generic tools cannot reach
  • You own the system and all underlying code when we are done
02

AI integration with existing systems and data

3–6 weeks

Connects AI capabilities to the systems your business already runs on. CRM, ERP, practice management, billing, communication tools. The AI reads from and writes to your real data rather than operating in isolation. This is what most generic tool implementations get wrong and what most AI projects fail without.

  • AI connected to your live business data and existing platforms
  • Bi-directional integration so AI both reads and acts on your systems
  • Data pipelines built and maintained as part of the engagement
  • Covers API integrations, database connections, and webhook automation
03

AI models trained on your business data

5–10 weeks

Foundation models fine-tuned on your proprietary data, your documents, your past decisions, and your domain knowledge. The result is an AI that knows your business the way a senior employee does, not the way a generic model trained on the internet does. This is where custom AI creates defensible competitive advantage.

  • Fine-tuning foundation models on your proprietary data and content
  • Domain-specific models for your industry, processes, and terminology
  • Private deployment so your data never trains a shared public model
  • Covers document analysis, classification, generation, and decision support
04

Internal tools and AI-powered applications

4–8 weeks

Standalone AI-powered applications built for specific functions inside your business. Dashboards that surface insights from your data automatically. Internal tools your team uses daily that have AI built into the workflow rather than bolted on as a separate tab. Congruent Software documented a 90 percent reduction in data processing errors for one client after this type of build.

  • Custom internal tools with AI built into the core functionality
  • Automated reporting and analytics dashboards from your data
  • Decision-support tools that surface recommendations from your systems
  • Built for your team, trained on your data, deployed in your environment

We had tried ChatGPT, a couple of industry-specific AI tools, and one custom build from a freelancer that never got finished. None of it talked to our actual systems. Tiger Tail started by understanding how we work, built integrations to our CRM and document management platform, and delivered a system that handles the work those three tools were supposed to do. It has been in production for six months. We have not touched it.

FAQ

Common questions

When does custom AI make sense vs just using an off-the-shelf tool?

Custom AI makes sense when a generic tool cannot fit your specific workflow, when you need AI to work with your proprietary data rather than public training data, or when the competitive advantage you want to build requires something nobody else has. If an off-the-shelf tool does 90 percent of what you need, we will tell you to use it. If it keeps failing at the 10 percent that matters most, that is when we build.

How long does it take to build a custom AI system?

A focused first version typically takes 4 to 8 weeks from kickoff to production. More complex systems with multiple integrations or custom model training take 8 to 12 weeks. We deliver working software in stages rather than a single big launch, so you see real progress before the full system is complete.

What happens to our data during development and after?

Your data stays in your environment. We build on AI infrastructure that does not train shared public models on your business data. We sign data processing agreements before any work begins and we can deploy entirely within your existing cloud or on-premises infrastructure if required. You own all data, all models, and all code when we are done.

What about maintenance after you hand it over?

We build systems designed to run without constant intervention. Every handover includes documentation and training for whoever owns the system internally. For ongoing changes and maintenance, we offer retainer options. Most clients make minor adjustments themselves and call us for larger changes or new builds.

How much does it cost?

The AI Gameplan diagnostic is $5,000 for four weeks of discovery, data assessment, and technical scoping. Custom development engagements are priced during the Gameplan based on scope, integration complexity, and build time. We bill month-to-month with discounts for longer commitments. The intro call is free. We will tell you straight whether custom development is warranted or whether an existing tool would serve you better.
